Peripatetic Therapy Encounter in the Cerrado – 2021

An online meeting about Mental Health, Peripatetic Therapy, and other clinical practices performed outside of the conventional setting. The intention is to offer a space for diverse, multidisciplinary, and multicentric debates.

The main objective of the online event (translated simultaneously into Portuguese, Spanish, and English) is to promote the debate and production of knowledge about Peripatetic Therapy beyond the borders of Latin America while making room for mental health and clinical practices performed outside the conventional setting.

It’s free and the Sympla platform allows the adhesion of entries from all over the world, so feel free to share it with anyone you think might be interested in the meeting.

The complete program of the event in Portuguese, Spanish, and English is available at afetoperipatetico.com

What’s Peripatetic Therapy?

A therapy that happens without the fixed settings of the office or institution. Also called an ambulant clinic because it’s offered commonly during walks. But in fact, it depends on the patient, his needs, and symptoms. It’s offered with different psychological approaches, including phenomenological ones. This clinical practice started in Argentina and Brazil to answer mental health challenges of patients that wouldn’t respond to conventional approaches and gradually evolved with specific techniques for the lack of settings.

Why Cerrado?

The Cerrado is one of the oldest and richest vegetation in the world, being predominant in central Brazil, but also found in Bolivia and Paraguay. While the Cerrado is one of the least studied biomes, it is at serious risk of extinction due to the expansion of export plantations.

Our event proposes this parallel between the Peripatetic Therapy and the Cerrado, as the richness and diversity of both are poorly studied and understood, with little space for debate compared to other more popular practices today.
