Book Series
- Leuven University Press has a book series Figures of the Unconscious, publishing on various subjects including psychopathology, lacanian psychoanalysis, and phenomenology, which can be found in their web catalogue under ‘Psychology’.
- The series Philosophical Psychopathology is published by MIT Press. The launch volume of this series, which shares the series title, was edited by George Graham and G. Lynn Stephens. It has been reviewed by Rudiger Vaas for Human Nature Review. Recent additions to the series include

Open Access Journals
- The online journal Comprendre – Archive International pour l’Antropologie et al Psychopatohologie Phenomenologiques – is available open-access online.
- The Crossing Dialogues association has its own journal Dialogues in Philosophy, Mental and Neuro Sciences, which exists to improve interdisciplinary communication and theoretical discussions in related fields such as psychology, psychiatry, philosophy, cognitive sciences and neurosciences.
- The Internationale Zeitschrift fur Philosophie und Psychosomatik is an open-access journal for philosophy and psychosomatic medicine. Its main focus is the interdisciplinary discussion of the mind-body-problem and the relevance of hermeneutic thinking in medical and psychotherapeutical practice. The journal is open for papers with both scientific and practical-therapeutic request. The main language is German, but it is also possible to publish in English or in French with an English abstract.
- The journal Journal fur Philosophie und Psychiatrie publishes papers – especially short communications – in European languages on the cross-over area of philosophy, psychiatry and clinical psychology.
- The Journal of Ethics in Mental Health publishes twice per year, online, hosted by McMaster University.
- Mens Sana Monographs is a “monograph series devoted to the understanding of medicine, mental health, man, and their matrix”.
- The open access, German language, e-journal: Philosophie der Psychologie – can be found at www.jp.philo.at. This philosophical journal concerns scientific and philosophical psychology, and scientific and philosophical psychopathology.
- Philosophy, Ethics, and Humanities in Medicine (PEHM) is an open-access (free), peer-reviewed on-line journal, published by BioMed Central, that encompasses all aspects of the philosophy of medicine and biology, and the ethical aspects of clinical practice and research. It also considers papers at the intersection of medicine and humanities, including the history of medicine, that are relevant to contemporary philosophy of medicine and bioethics.
- Thinkful investigates the role of philosophy in enhancing our current understandings of mental health. Drawing on philosophy’s rich intellectual legacy, as well as its unique mode of approach, Thinkful suggests new ways of accounting for and illuminating human distress and vulnerability and empowering those who suffer,
- The journal of the World Psychiatric Association, World Psychiatry, is available for open access (free) online. This publication frequently contains work of philosophical significance, such as K.W.M. (Bill) Fulford, Matthew Broome, Giovanni Stanghellini & Tim Thornton’s Looking with Both Eyes Open: Fact and Value in Psychiatric Diagnosis? (June 2005).

- The AAPP (American Association for Philosophy of Psychiatry) publishes an annual bulletin.
Subscription Journals
- The journal Current Opinion in Psychiatry has a November issue (number 6) each year devoted to History and Philosophy.
- The Journal of Medicine and Philosophy is published by Oxford University Press. It explores the shared themes and concerns of philosophy and the medical sciences.
- The Journal of Medicine, Healthcare and Philosophy is published by Springer Netherlands. It is the official journal of the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Health Care.
- The Journal of Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology is published by the Society for Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology – which is division 24 of the American Psychological Association.
- Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences is published by Kluwer Academic Publishers and contains much of interest to philosophical psychopathologists, such as Michael A. Schwartz et al.’s Rebuilding Reality: A Phenomenology of Aspects of Chronic Schizophrenia or Paul Henry Lysaker et al.’s Schizophrenia and the Experience of Intersubjectivity as Threat.
- Philosophical Psychology is an interdisciplinary journal which considers issues arising at the intersection of cognitive science and experimental psychology, neurophilosophy and philosophy of mind, moral and applied psychology, phenomenology, and the brain sciences.
- The journal PSN – Psychiatrie, Sciences Humaines, Neurosciences is edited by Bernard Granger and published by Springer, with articles in French. Much of the journal is devoted to philosophical debates in psychiatry.
- The Karger journal Psychopathology often contains phenomenologically inspired publications, such as A. Raballo & C. Maggini’s (2005) Experiential Anomalies and Self-Centrality in Schizophrenia, or T. Fuch’s (2005) Delusional Mood and Delusional Perception – A Phenomenological Analysis. The July-August 2005 edition (Vol. 38, No. 4) concernsPhilosophical and Methodological Foundations of Psychiatric Diagnosis.
- Sitegeist is a journal of psychoanalysis and philosophy: “Sitegeist is a space for thinking and questioning philosophy and psychoanalysis; it aims at a change in Geist – spirit, mind, intellect, wit, genius and morale. It seeks to contribute to a renewal of psychoanalysis, engaging with both the theoretical and the clinical and providing a lively contemporary discourse.”
- Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics is published by Springer. Volume 31, Number 1 / February, 2010 is a special issue on New trends in Philosophy of Psychiatry, edited by Thomas Schramme.
- Theory & Psychology focusses on the conceptual frameworks and foundations of psychology, its historical underpinnings, its relation to other human sciences, its methodological commitments, its ideological assumptions and its political and institutional contexts. It includes work on psychopathology, such as G. Scott Acton & Jason J. Zodda’s (2005) Classification of Psychopathology: Goals and Methods in an Empirical Approach.
